| Big Springs offers walking trails around the natural spring the town is named for near the remodeled public swimming pool. The community is rich in history with a museum housed in the old railroad depot at the park. The first and largest train robbery happened near Big Springs in 1877, when Texas outlaw, Sam Bass and five companions made off with $60,000 in gold and currency. Play the 9-hole sand green golf course, see the full boating sales and repairs, and enjoy the restaurants. Just to our north is the beautiful Ash Hollow State Park. Let us provide you with a park pass, and a full day of activities, or venture off yourself to Lake McConaughy, the largest reservoir in Nebraska, which is four miles wide, 20 miles long, with 100 miles of shoreline and natural white sand beaches. Only minutes away is the Wild West "Cowboy Capital" of Ogallala, the end of the Texas cattle drive. The Front Street Summer Theater and Shoot out will fascinate cowboys and cowgirls of all ages! Our "Gateway to Colorado" at Julesburg is rich in the history of the Pony Express and offers a re-ride and celebration of that historic ride. The Welcome Center at the Julesburg I-76 offers a wealth of information about the area. The Depot Museum in downtown Julesburg and several antique stores allow you to walk back in time. The restored and historic Hippadrome Theater shows the latest film attractions. Nearly every weekend there is a large antique auction at the Sedgwick County Fairgrounds, attracting antique buyers from many states.
